モントリオール五輪当時の実力NO.1は？

今中日新聞朝刊のスポーツ欄で「軌跡」と題し、東海出身の昔の有名な選手を各10回の連載で特集が組まれています。現在、体操の笠松茂さんが登場しており、今朝は8回目でモントリオール五輪欠場の経緯が述べられていました。中学生当時の私は笠松さんのスケールのでかい演技にあこがれていました。
　ここ数日その記事を読んでいるうち以前から持っていた疑問が再び頭をもたげてきました。

モントリオール五輪当時、男子では誰が世界NO.1とみられていたのか？

　私が体操というスポーツがあることを認識したのは、モントリオールの男子団体の逆転優勝の結果をニュースで見たのがきっかけでした。ゆえにそれ以前の笠松選手の演技構成、全体の完成度がつかめないでいます。

　優勝したアンドリアノフの方は、数少ない文献やドキュメンタリーの映像からも概ねその演技内容は把握しています。彼は当時世界にあまり浸透していなかった月面宙返りを床、つり輪、鉄棒に入れており、跳馬も最高峰の笠松とびでした。得点も2位に大差をつけて余裕をもって突き放しているので、笠松さんが出場していても優勝は微妙だったのではという推測をしています。

　一方で当時FIGに加盟していなかった中国に蔡煥宗という選手がいて、アンドリアノフよりも強かったと聞いたことがあります。その選手は1978年のアジア大会チャンピオンであり、1980年の代替五輪にも登場し、平行棒は見たことがありますが当時の随一の技術を披露していました。

　どうなんでしょう？当時笠松さんは五輪チャンピオンに近かったことは疑いがないと思いますが、アンドリアノフもしくは中国の蔡選手よりも上だったのでしょうか？

　私がたまらなく好きでずっと見てきた体操ですが、今なお知りえないことが山ほどあります。どなたか当時を知る方、上記について新たな見識を加えさせてください。
